Foreign object removal – POA

Foreign object removal

When foreign objects become lodged deep in the ear canal, impacted wax builds up around the object, causing acute hearing impairment, pain and infection. These objects often go undetected for years as they are impossible to see without a specialist microscope and exploration deep in the ear canal.

All our clinical team have undergone specialist training in foreign object removal and have the specialist equipment to safeguard the ear canal.

The most common foreign objects found are:

  • Parts of hearing aids

  • Backs of earrings

  • Ends of match sticks

  • Cotton buds

Improve the effectiveness of your hearing aid by keeping your earwax build up under control.

If you wear hearing aids, earwax can affect how they work. A large build-up of earwax can cause hearing aids to 'whistle'. This should stop when the earwax is removed. Earwax can also stop your hearing aids from working properly if it enters the tube or speaker. Earwax build-up can damage hearing aids.

While it’s important that our ears make the correct amount of earwax for our protection, too much of it can wreak havoc on hearing aids. It can lead to issues such as:

  • Hearing aid feedback

  • Sound being blocked from entering your ear

  • Cause your device to fit poorly or cause discomfort in your ear

  • Damage to the hearing aid and battery from moisture caused by the earwax, leading it to malfunction completely
